Ecological Gap Assessment for Programme of Work on Protected Areas Currently managing an ecological gap assessment project as part of Solomon Island’s Program of Work for Protected Areas (PoWPA). The aim of the PoWPA is to increase the number of protected areas (PAs) while ensuring that as far as possible PAs be designed and located for optimal biodiversity conservation effect. The project involves a managing a multi- stakeholder process of consultation and scientific data analysis, including GIS mapping, to arrive at a consensus on key gaps in biodiversity protection within the country and a workable strategy. This strategy will respond to needs for the improvement of policy information as well as biodiversity protection coverage. |

National Circumstances Report, Climate change Managed a research and analysis project which produced a situational report, providing background about prominent and pressing Solomon Islands climate change issues and their intersection with key issues of sustainable development, land use and the broader national policy setting. The report forms part of the Second National Communication by Solomon Islands as part of its obligations as signatory to the UNFCCC. |

Sustainable Land Management capacity development Managed the Sustainable Land Management project which built the capacity of the Solomon Islands Government to implement sustainable land management approaches at each operational level of decision making; from remote farming communities, through provincial-level government administrations, and to national agencies responsible for rural land management and economic development. This project involved systems development, training and participatory approaches with stakeholders at each level of intervention. |

State of Environment Report Executed the research and production of the first Solomon Islands State of the Environment report produced under the 1998 Environment Act. The report produced collates and synthesises the latest information on Solomon Islands environmental indicators and environmental policy issues. It also outlines key considerations for strategic environmental assessment approaches in Solomon Islands. |

Community Development Officers training project Conducted capacity building for a large group of rural development officers recruited to facilitate constituency level development throughout Solomon Islands. Training was delivered for 100 SIG Community Development Officers (CDOs) employed by the Ministry of Rural Development. CDOs represent a novel service delivery medium, providing direct development presence in all 50 constituencies of Solomon Islands. Relevant curriculum was developed and delivered to 100 CDOs in project appraisal, monitoring and evaluation during a series of courses in Honiara. |

Financial capacity building for education institutions Executed a project to provide comprehensive capacity building to education service providers across the entire of Solomon Islands. This involved development of training curricula and training materials as well as provision of training in financial management. This was delivered to the full spectrum of education providers in Solomons Islands including early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools, rural training centres, special education centres and education authorities. |

The research consists of comparative analysis through a series of three sets of case studies across the large scale sustainable forestry, large scale agriculture and tourism industries in two different provinces of Solomon Islands. |

Top students survey Managed the Solomon Islands Top Students survey as part of a series of international studies commissioned by the World Bank on the subject of brain drain and migration from less developed countries. The SI project closely followed the lines of similar projects conducted in Tonga and PNG in 2008, with key outputs being the identification of a class of top students and the completion of a tracking study of those students, with special emphasis on their career and professional movements, but also gathering information on their broader participation with their home country societies and economies. |

Pacific Peacebuilding Institute curriculum Developed curriculum as part of a project to implement a Pacific Institute of Peacebuilding and Development (PIPAD). The Institute had a two-fold aim; to provide the space where new and cutting-edge knowledge and skills in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and promoting human security will be shared and developed and to facilitate the development of a community of practice amongst practitioners and institutions within the region. The curriculum developed by PHCG included specialist 5 day intensive modules on a) land and conflict, b) traditional conflict resolution, c) natural resources and conflict and d) faith and governance. |

Programme design – Rural Livelihoods Program Provided design services for the proposed Solomon Islands Rural Livelihoods Program (SIRLP). The programme has evolved from AusAID’s deepening engagement in rural development in the Solomon Islands. Particular impetus for the activity comes from the new Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership for Development (SIAPfD), and especially from one of its priority Outcome Areas – Improved Economic Livelihoods. |

Pre-Feasibility Study – Auluta Oil Palm Project Provided analytic and facilitative services towards the pre-feasibility study to establish the feasibility of establishment of a 6000 ha nucleus oil palm plantation on the Island of Malaita. This is a National project of the Solomon Islands Government, with the pre-feasibility study funded by AusAID. |
